Bournemouth Flying Club RT Training

Bournemouth Flying Club offers in house Radiotelephony (RT) training and tests. We offer either an intensive One Day Course which includes both Written and Practical exams; Exam Only or One-to-One hourly tuition.

Training syllabus :

AIMS: To show knowledge and understanding of CAP413 and demonstrate ‘best practice’ in the use of RTF, enabling the candidate to reach the required FRTOL standard.

Objectives:

• Ensure understanding and correct use of the aircraft radio equipment.
• Correct transmission of messages and responses. Listening out.
• Understanding of CAP413, the phonetic alphabet, call signs and standard phrases.
• Correct use of ‘Roger’ and ‘Wilco’.
• Knowledge of read back items.
• The differences in ATC, AFIS, A/G.
• Making initial calls. Passing flight details.
• Maintaining communication. Changing frequencies.
• Obtaining clearances, including conditional, SVFR and MATZ.
• Making airfield calls (joining and circuit), en-route calls and position reports.
• Correct phraseology for flight in control Zones.
• Understanding ATSOCAS and the services available.
• Correct use of frequencies. Level reporting.
• Use of FIS, LARS and SSR (inc. mode C).
• Understanding priority of calls and the degrees of emergency.
• Correct use of MAYDAY and PAN calls (including relay of calls). Cancelling emergency.
• Uncertainty of position. Obtaining VDF bearing. Radio failure procedures.
